COMMEMORATIVE PROJECT 2009/10

Exhibition Posters

In late 2009, a team of researchers from the MHSA's (Victorian Branch), in co-operation with the Oakleigh & District Historical Society (O&DHS) and the Oakleigh-Carnegie RSL, began a WWI commemorative project to research, confirm, and describe the service histories of the men of the Oakleigh district who died during WWI and who are listed on at least one of four Oakleigh sources:

The information collected will provide content for a commemorative booklet giving the details of their service to be produced by Remembrance Day 2010.
See below Honour Roll

In addition, the project team is hoping that publicity of the project will encourage family and community members with connections to these men to provide memorabilia which can be used in an exhibition around these men to be held at the Monash Federation Centre next to the Pioneer Memorial Park at Oakleigh between 1st October and 31st December 2010.

Research has included looking at the men's individual service records at the National Archives, as well as a range of other records including local Oakleigh records, Commonwealth War Graves Commission records, the men's pay records kept in National Archives Melbourne and a range of other pertinent information.

The project team has been awarded a $3,000 Department of Veterans Affairs 'Saluting Their Service' grant to help defray the costs of the project.

For information about this project please contact vicsec@mhsa.org.au or ring 0408 342 795
